Sudden onset of leg swelling should raise concern for the possibility of DVT (deep venous thrombosis), a potentially life-threatening problem. DVT

Ultrasound is utilized not only to diagnose DVT, but also to follow its progress. Typically patients are followed routinely with periodic ultrasounds during the course of their anti-coagulation.
