Endovenous Laser Treatment

Endovenous Laser Treatment

Endovenous laser treatment (a.k.a. EVLT, EVLA, EVLeS) is a minimally-invasive treatment that is used to eliminate the root of the problem that causes varicose veins.  A fast and easy procedure, EVLT is performed in the office and takes less than an hour to complete.   The procedure is safe and comfortable, and you will be able to return home immediately afterwards, with almost no downtime.  We hear from patients time and time again how easy the procedure is to undergo!

About the Procedure (EVLT)

Under ultrasound guidance, a tiny fiber is inserted into the affected vein.  Local anesthesia is provided, to ensure patient comfort.   The fiber is then activated to deliver energy to the vein, which causes the vein to close. The fiber is then removed and a dressing is applied.  You then put on your clothes and walk to your car.  You will need to wear compression stockings for a number of days after the procedure to promote healthy blood flow and healing.  Recovery time after EVLT is minimal, with most patients returning to regular activities shortly thereafter.

What to Expect after EVLT

Results of EVLT are evident immediately at the end of the procedure.  The vein is noted to be closed by ultrasound and symptoms  improve in the days to follow. EVLT may be used in conjunction with other procedures, such as Microphlebectomies and/or Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy, to completely eliminate all of the varicose veins. EVLT demonstrates an initial 98-100% success rate, with a 95-98% success rate 5 years after treatment.
