What is Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy?
Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is a new and exciting treatment used to get rid of small to medium varicose veins. While this procedure alone is enough to get rid of smaller veins, individuals with large varicose veins may need to seek a different treatment method first. The process is minimally invasive and extremely effective.
How Does it Work?
First, a tiny needle is inserted into the varicose vein under the guidance of ultrasound. Using ultrasound ensures that only the veins you want to be treated are punctured in this process. Once the needle has been inserted, medication is injected into the vein. This medication makes the vein collapse in on itself, closing it. This affected vein eventually dissolves away entirely.
The entire procedure usually takes about a half an hour to complete, but you should plan to set aside 30-40 minutes on that same day to go for a casual walk. This ensures that your blood is flowing normally. You will also be required to wear compression stockings for a period after treatment.
What are the Benefits of Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy?
Compared to other varicose vein removal procedures, ultrasound guided sclerotherapy has a number of unique benefits. The ultrasound techniques used in this procedure allow Dr. Rayman to carefully and accurately insert the needle into the veins being treated. This kind of precision is of particular importance in this procedure because varicose veins can be difficult to see with the naked eye.
Unlike other options available for the removal of varicose veins, ultrasound guided sclerotherapy involves just a simple injection; that’s it! The recovery time for the procedure is minimal, so you can get back to your daily routine sooner rather than later.
Am I a Good Candidate?
If you have small to medium varicose veins that you would like removed, you are probably a good candidate for ultrasound guided sclerotherapy. During your consultation appointment, Dr. Rayman will examine your varicose veins, as well as your current state of health and medical history when deciding if ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is right for you.
