Microphlebectomy in Los Angeles, CA

Larger varicose veins near the surface of the skin on the legs, as well as prominent veins on the backs of the hands, are sometimes removed by a minimally invasive procedure known as microphlebectomy (also known as ambulatory phlebectomy).  This treatment is performed in the office and usually takes less than an hour to complete.  The procedure is easy to undergo and you are able to return home immediately after the procedure, with almost no downtime.  Results are typically dramatic, with disappearance of the previously bulging varicose veins.

Microphlebectomies are often recommended for varicose veins that remain after EVLT, RFA, Varithena, VenaSeal or MOCA and for varicose veins that are too large to treat with ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy.

About the Procedure (Microphlebectomy)

Microphlebectomy procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure. You’ll be given local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during treatment. The veins are removed via tiny incisions (which are typically so small that not even a stitch is needed). At the end of the procedure, steri-strips are placed over the tiny puncture sites, and a dressing is then applied.  The entire procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes to complete, depending on the number of veins to be removed.  You can then walk to your car.

What to Expect After Microphlebectomies

You’ll be able to return home immediately after the procedure, and resume most normal activities.  You will then wear compression stockings for one to two weeks, to assist the healing process. While some bruising is expected in the first few days after microphlebectomies, this eventually goes away.  Tiny scars are seen at the puncture sites, but these will eventually fade with time.
