Mechanico-Chemical Ablation (a.k.a. MOCA, Clarivein) is a revolutionary way to treat the root of varicose veins. Like Endovenous Laser Treatment, RFA, Varithena, and VenaSeal, MOCA is performed in the office setting. The procedure is fast, effective and safe. Only a tiny amount of local anesthesia is needed, and the entire process typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. You’ll be able to return home immediately after the procedure, with almost no downtime.
About the Procedure
Ultrasound is used to identify the affected vein and guide a narrow catheter directly to the problematic area. Once the catheter is properly positioned, a wire at the tip of the catheter is set in a rotating motion while medication is simultaneously injected into the vein. The wire tip agitates the wall of the vein, allowing the medication to work more effectively . The combination of the rotating wire and the medication causes the vein wall to seal shut. The catheter is then removed and a dressing is applied. The procedure is comfortable and easy to undergo. Patients are amazed at how little they feel during the treatment.
What to Expect after MOCA
You are encouraged to get up and walk shortly after the procedure. You will wear compression stockings for two weeks after the procedure, to promote healing and healthy blood flow. Most regular activities can be resumed right away.
Although MOCA is a relatively new procedure, early results demonstrate a success rate as high as 95%. Results are typically seen within two to three weeks, although larger veins may take longer to disappear. Some patients require follow-up treatment with Microphlebectomies and/or Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy to achieve desired results.
