External laser, like sclerotherapy and VeinGogh, can be an effective treatment for spider veins on the legs, face and chest. It is particularly useful for the treatment of veins or the surface of the skin which are too small for or are resistant to sclerotherapy. External laser is also a good treatment option for patients who have had a previous allergic reaction to sclerosing agents and for patients who are needle-phobic.
External laser works over the surface of the skin, eliminating spider veins without needles or catheters. The laser device allows for precise delivery of laser energy to the affected veins while avoiding surrounding skin or tissue. The process takes just a few minutes to complete and requires no downtime afterward.
About the Procedure:
External laser treatment for spider veins is a simple outpatient procedure at Beach Cities Vein and Laser Center. You will be given protective goggles during the procedure. A hand piece is used to deliver tiny pulses of laser energy to the spider veins, as the veins are traced by your provider. At the end of the procedure, compression stockings are placed on your legs and you are able to leave the office unattended.
What to Expect Afterward
After the procedure, you will be able to resume most regular activities. It is recommended that you stay out of the sun for two weeks after treatment. The spider veins will gradually disappear over the next few weeks, as the veins are reabsorbed by the body. In most cases, additional sessions will be required to achieve desired results.
